Fluoride Treatments
in Brentwood, CA
Fluoride helps repair early tooth damage by strengthening enamel at the microscopic level. When acids weaken enamel, minerals are lost. Fluoride attracts calcium and phosphate back to the tooth surface, forming a stronger, more decay-resistant structure. At our Brentwood Family Dentistry, we recommend fluoride treatments to help stop early cavities, protect enamel, and support long-term tooth health. Get in touch with us today to learn more!

Are fluoride treatments worth it for adults?
Fluoride treatments can be very beneficial for adults, especially those with a history of cavities, gum recession, dry mouth, or tooth sensitivity. As enamel naturally wears down over time, fluoride helps strengthen teeth and protect exposed root surfaces. We often recommend fluoride for adults who want extra protection against decay and to maintain long-term oral health.

How long do I have to wait to eat after fluoride?
After a fluoride treatment, we typically recommend waiting about 30 minutes before eating or drinking. This allows the fluoride to fully absorb into the enamel for maximum benefit. In some cases, it’s recommended to avoid brushing with a fluoridated toothpaste for the rest of the day. Of course, our team always provides clear post-treatment instructions based on the type of fluoride used.

What is the difference between professional fluoride and store-bought toothpaste?
Store-bought toothpaste contains a low level of fluoride designed for daily use, while professional fluoride treatments use a much higher concentration. In-office fluoride provides deeper enamel strengthening and longer-lasting protection. Professional fluoride is used as a preventive boost, working alongside daily brushing and flossing to reduce cavity risk.

Does insurance cover fluoride treatments?
Many dental insurance plans cover fluoride treatments for children, and some also provide coverage for adults, especially if they are considered high-risk for cavities. Coverage varies by plan. Our in-house dental wellness plan also includes two fluoride treatments per year for children under 18 years old, and we always recommend our young patients take full advantage of this benefit.
